OUR APPROACH

WEDCO operates as both borrower and lender — responsibly sourcing public and private capital and redeploying those funds into new and existing businesses across the region. We recognize the 5 C’s of Credit;

Character, Capacity, Collateral,
Capital & Conditions.

We place particular weight on character when evaluating opportunity. Our model allows us to assume greater risk than traditional institutions when warranted by planning, partnership, and community impact.

All principal payments are restricted for future lending. Interest income supports operational sustainability. This structure ensures that capital deployed today remains impactful tomorrow.

The Integrity of Stewardship
WEDCO operates with the transparency of a public non-profit and the discipline of a private lender. Our capital deployment is governed by a rigorous set of checks and balances designed to protect the long-term viability of the Lakes Region’s economic engine.
Disciplined Risk Management
Every investment decision is vetted through our Investment Committee, composed of seasoned financial professionals, community leaders, and industry experts. This body ensures that capital is deployed based on merit, character, and regional impact potential, rather than speculative trends.
The Perpetual Capital Model
Unlike traditional grant-making organizations, WEDCO utilizes a Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) structure. This ensures that your partnership has a legacy: as principal is repaid, it is immediately restricted and prepared for the next round of deployment. Your capital stays in the Lakes Region, working in perpetuity.
Fiduciary Responsibility
We maintain a strict adherence to 501c-3 compliance and professional auditing standards. Our Board of Directors provides active oversight of all capital initiatives, ensuring that every dollar aligns with our core mission of generational regional stability.
